Abstract

In this chapter consideration will be given to the consequences which can arise from the interactions of band-gap electromagnetic radiation with the surfaces of solids, and in particular to the manner in which perturbations which are created in equilibria that have been established between gaseous species and their adsorbed counterparts; the displacement of an adsorption equilibrium in either direction becoming manifest as the phenomenon of photosorption.
