Abstract

Another field where secular changes over this period of time are very important is the variations in the length of the day which are closely related to the secular variation of the Earth’s magnetic field. One of the problems in understanding the changes of the geomagnetic field is to obtain a continuous record, whether from historical observations or from the palaeomagnetic record. I think this will be a theme which comes into this conference a great deal.
