Abstract
The total length of the coastline of Tunisia is 1,270 km of which 525 km are sandy, including 40 km of deltaic coastline (Paskoff 1981). Beach erosion is presently affecting about 135 km, especially in the surroundings of Tunis and around the island of Jerba (Fig. 1), 2 important areas for seaside tourism which has become an important item of the country’s economy (2,150,000 tourists, 350 million U.S. dollars in 1981).
