Climate and Climatic Variability in Semi-Arid Regions at Low Latitudes

  • Chapter
The Impact of Climatic Variations on Agriculture

Abstract

The case study areas considered in this volume are all located within semi-arid climatic regions. The causes of aridity and drought are complex and are not necessarily the same in each case study area. The study areas considered represent a selection of the semi-arid environments found predominantly at low latitudes, often with widely differing causes. The detailed climates of each case study area are described later in separate parts of the volume. In this section the climates of the study areas are related to each other and to atmospheric circulation patterns.
