Abstract
Advanced stellar civilizations are expected by the Drake equation to live for 106–107 years. Since the interstellar transport of resources is unrealistic, they would manage to have such long lives only if they would adhere to a practically zero growth in all of their matter and energy related activities. The social implications are discussed.
