Abstract

The different types of radio emissions during solar flares are reviewed. Among the short time emissions, blips, spikes, fibers, and pulsations are the most interesting. Spikes may be signatures of elementary flare acceleration events. Their radiation mechanism is still unknown. Among the long term emissions we concentrate on the solar noise storm. We propose that, contrary to common opinion, noise storms are related to relaxation and rearrangements of the loops in active regions. Rayleigh-Taylor instability destroys the loops. The dilute bubbles of coronal material rising in the loop are the sources of the solar type-I burst radiation. The continuum is caused by interaction of the lower-hybrid waves excited at the boundaries of the bubbles with the high-frequency plasma waves generated by the trapped particle component in the loop. Burst radiation is proposed to be due to cyclotron maser action in the dilute bubble plasma.
