Stellar Radio Emission

  • Conference paper

Part of the book series: Astrophysics and Space Science Library ((ASSL,volume 143))

Abstract

From O stars to M dwarfs, radio observations are beginning to play a significant role in the understanding of the outer stellar atmospheres. Discoveries of new classes of objects are becoming a relatively routine event, with large surveys complementing detailed studies of individual sources. Combined with recent advances in instrumental and observational techniques, these studies have spurred new theoretical work. This paper presents an overview of the various radiation mechanisms believed to play a role in stellar radio emission, followed by a review of the status of observational stellar radio astronomy and focuses on the advances that have been made in the last several years.
