Abstract
In the valleys of hilly and mountainous country site relatively small emissions of pollutants can already lead to very high immission concentrations when inversion weather conditions prevail. This has been shown by the results of continuous measurements taken in two valleys in the northern Black Forest and in Schönbuch Forest.
The forests of Baden-Württemberg are beset by SO2 on a large scale when North-East winds predominate. These long-distance transports are facilitated by atmospheric inversion layers at particular altitudes. This is examplified in a case study.
