Synthetic Wind Climatology evaluated by the Non-Hydrostatic Numerical Mesoscale Model KAMM

  • Chapter

Abstract

Statistical informations about the wind field, like distributions of the wind direction or the wind velocity, are often needed for regional planning purposes. Thereby a high spatial resolution is required. But the density of the station network is usually poor, because only few measurements of few stations are available. But these measurements show, that the wind field is influenced by local processes, so that an interpolation of the measurements seems not to be wise without any additional information.

It will be demonstrated, that a mesoscale model can be used to construct synthetic maps of statistical parameters of the wind field with high resolution. These statistical parameters are the distribution of the mean wind velocity and the wind direction. Also the spatial correlation function can be evaluated. This function can be helpful to decide a station to be representative for a special location.
