Abstract
Measurements of the chemical composition of fog/cloud water at two mountain sites in West Germany are presented. The amount of deposited water in a fir forest by fog/cloud droplet interception is assessed using the cloud droplet deposition model of Lovett (1984). The model input data are taken from regular meteorological observations. The yearly amounts of cloud water intercepted by a forest vary between 25 and 150 % of the precipitation depth for heights between 840 and. 1440 m a.s.l. Combination of intercepted amount with measured concentrations of sulfate, nitrate, and chloride show the trace substance deposition to be 1 – 4 times higher than the amounts deposited by rain.
