Abstract
Escapes of stars from stellar systems occur in general after close approaches. In the case of galaxies stars can escape if their energy is larger than the escape energy, and their orbits are stochastic. The role of cantori and Arnold diffusion for this process is discussed. In rotating galaxies escapes occur mainly from the corotation region after “encounters” between the stars and the main body of the galaxy. The “escape regions” are surrounded by infinite sets of unstable periodic orbits.
