Abstract

A systematic numerical study of the possibilities for satellite capture of comets by Jupiter has been recently undertaken. The first step of our program consists in an investigation of temporary nearby satellites, followed by an attempt to estimate their lifetime as a function of the initial conditions. We present here, as a preliminary progress report, a detailed computation of orbits close to the limit of the stability zone for satellites, using 3-body models.
