Aspects of Flow and Mixing Behavior in Fluidized Beds

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSE,volume 152))

Abstract

Fluidization deals with the phenomena of the motion of particles and fluid and transport of heat and/or mass between the fluid and solid phases. The phenomenon occurs when the fluid is passed through the solids at a velocity of sufficient magnitude that the drag exceeds the net weight of the particle. Fluidization is typically characterized by large slip velocities between the phases and complicated motions of both phases.
