Abstract
One of the common ways in which heat exchangers, or other pieces of equipment for that matter, become fouled is through the process of crystallisation. It usually involves aqueous solutions of soluble salts, which are either being heated or cooled. For this reason cooling water systems are often prone to crystal deposition, due to hardness salts, the problem being more acute where the dissolved solids content is high.
