Abstract

The so called oil crisis about twelve to fifteen years ago initiated largely by the economic pressures of OPEC, has stimulated an interest in Energy Management. Although conservation of energy as been an aspect of industrial technology for many years, recently there has been an intensification of activity to attempt to reduce the energy requirements in response to the high prices demanded for energy, particularly oil. The current relatively low price of oil at the time of writing, is unlikely to remain for long and it may be anticipated that once the current world economic recession is overcome, itself brought about at least in part by the high oil prices, the cost of energy will again reach high levels.
