Abstract

During the last decade induction of somatic embryogenesis has been carried out in a number of plant species in China. Several features of embryogenesis of woody plants are described. The embryogenesis should go through two stages, that is, the young and the mature embryo stage, before they can be transferred to plantlet forming medium. Some factors affecting the induction freguency of embryogenesis, such as light and dark, temperature, medium and hormones are discussed. The causes of abnormal embryoid formation are also mentioned.
