Abstract
Computer-based message systems for asynchronous communication between individuals and groups are becoming common. Little attention has so far been given to the study of the social pscyhological consequences of such communication and the ways in which it differs from communication in other areas. A number of research areas are outlined, and implications for transnational communication are discussed.
