Two-Phase Pressure Drop in Boiler Tubes

  • Chapter
Two-Phase Flow Heat Exchangers

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSE,volume 143))

Abstract

This lecture deals with pressure drop in the two-phase regime in boiler tubes. It describes possible methods of calculating the individual pressure drop components (hydrostatic and acceleration pressure drop and friction pressure loss). Use of the homogeneous flow model with its various formulations for calculation of the friction pressure loss is also discussed. The ways in which the wetted/unwetted condition of the heating surface affects pressure loss in heated tubes are described, and an approach to their mathematical representation is given. Finally, the calculation methods for use with rough tubes and rifled tubes are presented.
