Abstract

An extensive literature documents the efficacy of combination chemotherapy in locally advanced and metastatic sarcomas (1–3). Response rates in larger studies range from 20–60%, but complete remission rates are rarely above 15%. The most effective combinations generally contain Doxorubicin and Dacarbazine (DTIC), which were, until recently, the most active single agents. Average response rates, in collected series (3) for Adriamycin were 24% (range 16–41) and DTIC 17.5% (range 15–25). An analogue of Cyclophosphamide, Ifosfamide has shown promising results producing remission rates ranging from 18–38%, with an average of 28% (3,4).
