Abstract
Our title question is important, but to my mind it is not nearly as intriguing as two responses it easily prompts. The first response is, Why not? The second is, But where are they?
This paper was originally written as a response to Terence Parsons’s paper, ‘Are There Nonexistent Objects?’ which was presented at the American Philosophical Association, Pacific Division Meetings, in March 1982. Parsons’s paper appeared in American Philosophical Quarterly 19 (1982), 365–371.
