Pregnancy in Dialysis and Transplant Patients

  • Chapter
Pregnancy and Renal Disorders

Part of the book series: New Clinical Applications ((NCNG,volume 4))

Abstract

Our department, over the past 15 years, has secured a fairly comprehensive experience of pregnancy in both dialysis and transplant patients. For instance, the oldest patient on haemodialysis, aged 44, successfully delivered a live baby1, whilst the first successful pregnancy in a diabetic patient having chronic ambulatory peritoneal dialysis was published five years ago2,3. We are also the unit to report the first baby born to a mother receiving cyclosporin A as the only immunosuppressive agent4. On the other hand, I suspect our department has the dubious record of having the fastest conception after successful transplantation, namely 3 weeks!
