Abstract

Sciences are in flux. They are subject to the growing complexity of their own questioning. It is with good reason that one speaks of open systems. New objects of knowledge are continually being taken up and integrated into the accepted system. But more may be said. The accepted presuppositions of a system are also subject to a critical analysis. These two phases of the scientific enterprise reciprocally condition each other. This has consequences on the precision of the formulation of the discipline’s prevailing problems. Further, the methodology of each science participates in this process.
