Abstract

Atherosclerosis is a disease causing lesions in the vascular wall of elastic and muscular arteries. The arteries that are involved are exposed to high and pulsatile blood pressure and associated rapid flow of blood. The main impact of the disease process is on the intima and the inner media causing luminal narrowing.
