Abstract
A personal view is presented on the significance of the issues that were discussed on the conference and recommendations on further research are presented. These include research on the survival of pathogens in soil, detection methods, breeding for resistance against major pathogens, quantification of the effects of separate pathogens and especially of their interactions, and the development of models that integrate knowledge on the interactions between pathogens and crops in relation to soil conditions and climate.
