Abstract
Recalling the first question asked in the introduction of this book, how do ophiolites compare with oceanic lithosphere, we are tempted to answer that the best evidence that they do is their wide structural and petrological variety (chapter 8). This necessarily reflects a variety of oceanic situations and it excludes the possibility that a particular oceanic environment has been preferentially sampled to become an ophiolite.
