Derivation of Phillips α-Parameter from Turbulent Diffusion as a Damping Mechanism

Abstract

A damping mechanism nonlinear in energy density is proposed to be responsible for wave dissipation in the open ocean. It is then possible to calculate an order of magnitude to Phillips α–parameter, defining the energy content in the saturation range of the spectrum.
