Instabilities in Non-Autonomous Systems

  • Chapter
Instabilities and Nonequilibrium Structures II

Part of the book series: Mathematics and Its Applications ((MAIA,volume 50))

Abstract

Examples of dynamical effects in instabilities with time dependent control parameters are analyzed. The role of fluctuations in these situations is emphasized. Examples include the case of delayed bifurcation with swept control parameter in the context of the laser instability and the case of periodic modulation of the control parameter with application to transient pattern formation in the Freedericksz transition.
