The Effect of Mismatch on Array Processors with Normal Mode Replica Vectors

  • Chapter

Abstract

The sonar problem is often concerned with estimating the location of a point acoustic source in an underwater environment. An array of sensors is deployed and the time series observed at the sensor outputs are used in the estimation process. We consider the case where the array consists of L omni-directional sensors located at arbitrary but known vector positions {u j} j=1...L in R3. In many situations the acoustic source is in the far field and the location parameter to be estimated is the angle of arrival for the signal with respect to the array coordinate system.
