Abstract
Drs. Wynder and Orlandi are both actively involved in promoting programs to diminish, if not eradicate, smoking in our society. Dr. Wynder was one of the earliest researchers involved in establishing the dangers of smoking. Their chapter takes as an axiom that the evidence on the dangers of smoking is overwhelming. They present their view of an optimal program to eradicate smoking involving a broadly based approach through politics, health care, economic forces, education, and other agencies.
