Abstract
Concrete bridges have been in use for some 90 years but are now beginning to present problems for assessing corrosion of the reinforcing and prestressing steel. Corrosion is being experienced in most European countries due to the use of deicing salt during cold weather. Another factor is that design codes have changed over the years and many concrete bridges are having to be reassessed to determine their load carrying capacity under present loading.
This paper is concerned with evaluation of bridges in relation to corrosion and load carrying capacity.
