Subsea Communications for Semi-Autonomous ROVs

  • Chapter
Ocean Resources

Abstract

Through-water electromagnetic wave, optical, acoustic and dispensed line signalling techniques are discussed, after a brief review of baseband signals and noise, relevant to semi-autonomous applications. A proposal for AROV intervention with the deep ocean DUMAND array is outlined. The paper also contains a detailed account of a technique of adaptive echo cancellation for the relevant problem of high data rate acoustic communications in the presence of multipath interference.
