Abstract
In the design phase often finite element models are used to calculate the dynamic behaviour of a structure. Before the model can be applied by other disciplines (such as attitude control) it must be validated. This means that the measured and calculated modal parameters must be compared. If differences are found the causes must be localized. In literature different localization methods are proposed. At Fokker Space and Systems and the National Aerospace Laboratory a number of these localization methods were evaluated. To that end the methods were programmed and applied for different structures. The results of this investigation are presented in this paper.
The conclusion is that no single method gives reliable results for a wide class of problems. The best way then is to use different methods next to each other and to base conclusions on engineering judgement of the results obtained with the different methods.
