Abstract

The question “is there such a thing as business ethics?” has been widely discussed among moral philosophers, and all concerned with the subject are aware of one of its central issues, which is whether business and ethics really “mix”. The growing success of business ethics both as a subject of academic teaching and as influential in the world outside universities suggests that they do mix. Still, there is a nasty problem lurking in this issues, which has not yet been seriously considered. It has to do with human motivation.
