Abstract
This chapter describes the NAR storage-yield model, together with the shortage index associated with the model in terms of which failures are expressed. The storage-yield relationships used in the supply model are based upon the analyses conducted with the model described here. The model was designed to determine the amount of storage required and the risk of failure of that storage at various demand rates at streamflow locations where the flow is known, and to express the failures in terms of a shortage index. A detailed description of the model is in SP-1 through SP-28; hydrology in the NAR is discussed in App. C.
