Expected Effects of Climatic Change on Marine Coastal Ecosystems

Part of the book series: Developments in Hydrobiology ((DIHY,volume 57))

Abstract

Because the temperature of coastal waters will probably rise in the next 50–100 years, some possible effects of this temperature change on fish populations in coastal areas, particularly the Wadden Sea, are discussed.

This discussion is based on a comparison of some fish populations existing in the Wadden Sea and in two Portuguese estuaries (Tagus and Mira), both having higher average temperatures than the Wadden Sea.
