Abstract
It was Voltaire, the eighteenth century French philosopher, who said that, “if you see a banker jump out of the window, jump after him — there’s sure to be a profit in it.” And the group who appear to have taken these words to heart are the banks themselves. In the name of competition, they have followed each other in introducing new technology, new products and new management structures.
