Abstract

We consider here the steady-state Boltzmann radiation transport equation, and appropriate boundary conditions, that apply to the irradiation of a uniform plane-parallel medium by a directed beam that is incident locally (at a point) on the surface of the medium. We construct single-scatter solutions for the exit angular and total fluxes, and show that these solutions can be applied to typical problems in medical radiation physics. Finally, we give some results of the application of a single-scatter model to a photon beam-modifier problem relevant to radiation therapy. The presentation stresses the application as well as the mathematical solution.
