Abstract
More than any other part of the entire organism the central nervous system is affected profoundly by anesthetics. Additionally, episodes of malperfusion or of hypoxemia during or after anesthesia are seldom detected shortly after their initiation, as monitoring of the CNS is not a commonly used technique during anesthesia or in the intensive care ward.
