Abstract

We present two cases of gravitationally lensed quasars that have damped Ly α lines in the spectrum of one image and not in the spectrum of the second. We study how the statistical quantities derived from surveys for damped Ly α systems can be affected by gravitational lensing due to the absorbers themselves.
