Part of the book series: Fluid Mechanics and Its Applications ((FMIA,volume 35))

Abstract

Cross-flow and related effects are discussed theoretically with regard to four papers with which the author has been concerned. The work generally is on linear-instability and then nonlinear-transition paths arising in incident three-dimensional boundary layers or in incident swirling vortex flows. The nonlinear aspect involves vortex/wave interactions in particular as they arise at relatively low amplitudes, involving viscous or inviscid wave contributions to the interactions.
