Surface Chemical Controls on Pore-Fluid Connectivity in Texturally Equilibrated Materials

  • Chapter
Fluid Flow and Transport in Rocks

Abstract

The extent of connectivity of a fluid phase, in geological materials has a fundamental control on rock physical properties such as permeability (Beere, 1975; Park and Yoon, 1985; von Bargen and Waff, 1986), electrical conductivity (Watanabe and Kurita, 1993), rheology (Cooper and Kohlstedt, 1984, 1986; Kohlstedt, 1992), and mass transport (Hunter and McKenzie, 1989; Watson, Brenan and Baker, 1990; Farver and Yund, 1992; Brenan, 1993).
