Abstract
At the present time, there is a considerable interest in the potential use of ceramics as high temperature engineering materials in applications where metals have traditionally been employed, e.g. gas turbines and diesel engines1. This is because the resistance to thermal shock and oxidation is combined to higher operating temperatures (up to 1500 °C) compared with metals.
