Summary

Although the importance of food and forage legumes in Lebanon is now minor compared to fruit and vegetables, they have been grown here since the beginning of agriculture. Demand is now increasing and efforts are being made to increase production. This paper reports the various aspects of legume research carried out by the American University of Beirut and ICARDA. It includes studies on the effects of inoculation, fertilization, pea weevil, delayed leaf senescence and maintenance of nodule activity beyond pod maturity, and compatibility studies between inocula and pesticides.
