Abstract

Experimental and theoretical problems associated with the light scattering characterization of polymer-polymer interactions in solution are discussed. A series of light scattering studies on several blend systems carried out under the special condition termed “optical 0” reveal how polymer-polymer interactions manifest themselves in dilute and nondilute solutions. The apparent interaction observed in solution is, if corrected for the excluded volume effect, seemingly similar to that in bulk, though they may be different in details.
