Abstract

The synthesis and characterization of two types of ionomeric model systems is discussed. (A) Polystyrenes and polybutadienes with few 2-vinyl-pyridine units at one chain end form micellar type associates after quaternization. Viscoelastic data in the flow region are in agreement with the picture of a three-dimen- sional ramificated structure of ionic clusters. (B) In polybutadienes with statistically distributed 4-(3’-nitro-4’-hydroxy)-phenyl-1, 2,4-triazolidine-3,5-dione groups, thermoreversible networks are formed by either hydrogen bonds or by ion pair interactions. The different behaviour of dimeric complexes or multiple ionic clusters is evident in the stress strain behavior.
