Abstract
There are two ways of looking at the recent emergence of platinum as a prime exploration target. One view is that it simply illustrates the abiding fatuousness of exploration geologists—their herd instinct, their inability to concentrate on more than one thing at a time and their slender grasp on economic realities. From the other point of view it is a classic case of market forces doing their thing—investment rushing to meet opportunity and plug anticipated gaps in the supply of essential materials.
