Abstract

If we look at the posters on coatings then we find general support for the observations of Dr. Mevrel. The poster by Peichl et al. concerns cyclic oxidation of an M002 alloy single crystal, tested in the uncoated condition and with various coatings. Their general observation was that the cyclic oxidation resistance increased from that of an uncoated alloy through to the CoCrA1Y. The benefit of the platinium in the Pt-Al coating, over the conventional aluminide is something I will come back to. Among their observations of degradation of the coating/substrate interface was void formation in a single crystal substrate when the coating was consumed, and void formation actually with in the CoCrA1Y-coating for the CoCrA1Y-coating.
