Abstract

Polystyrene networks grafted with pendent poly (ethylene oxide) chains were prepared in pure THF or in THF-heptane mixtures by anionic block copolymerization. In a good solvent of both polymer components such networks are highly swollen. In water, deswelling occurs; however, a rather high residual swelling ratio is observed. The equilibrium swelling and mechanical behaviour of these samples, when swollen in THF or in water, have been investigated.
