Errors in the diagnosis of retinoblastoma

Summary

We have studied 60 retinoblastomas over a period of 8 years in the Buenos Aires University Hospital. 40 cases were enucleated after diagnosis and pathology was performed on each eye.

The echographic diagnosis was performed with the 7200 Kretz unit echograph, and lately with the Ocuscan: Sonokretz 400 ST — Both with A-mode with S shaped amplification.

The diagnosis was correct in 36 cases and of the four remaining cases, two were false negative and two false positive.
