Rheumatic Fever

Abstract

The natural history of rheumatic fever may be said to start with the streptococcal pharyngitis that precedes it by an interval (“latent period”) of 2 to 3 weeks (mean 18.6 days). The latent period of rheumatic fever is a little longer than that of post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis, and is of the same length in first attacks and in recurrences1.
